If you follow me on Instagram, you know I have this thing with doors. Small doors, big doors, ornate or simple. I think it started with Alice and Wonderland or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where at any minute I thought an alternate universe with talking pansies and disappearing cats was waiting on the other side. Fantasy isn’t my jam at all, but I think my curiosity surrounding doors has certainly lingered from those weird childhood movies. Rome is a gold mine in the door department, paralleled only by Paris and London in my book.
I think there’s a door under there.
I find myself wondering what’s behind them. Is it a damp, dark staircase? Is it a bright, glamorous entry way? Or is it just an ordinary small space that no one really pays much attention to. I have a feeling it’s more like the latter.
I bet there’s just an attorney behind this one…
If this person likes indoor plants as much as they like outdoors ones, I bet their quaint Roman flat is quite crowded. Never too many plants, right?
Some doors have even made there way to the silver screen… Do you recognize this one? To all my fellow, Eat, Pray, Love fans: this is the front of Elizabeth’s apartment during the “eat” phase of “finding herself.”
Even this guy is curious what’s inside. I wonder if he’s a Julia Roberts fan too.
This door has it all…a tiny door, a balcony and a outdoor cafe.
Simply exploring this city, from doors to gelato, is one of my favorite ways to experience Rome.
Have you been to Rome? Did you notice all these charming doors? It can’t be just me.
Isn’t Rome just one of the most beautiful cities in the world?
It really is! I actually studied abroad here about 10 years ago and struggled to adjust at first. Now, it feels like home : )
