Sézane is my favorite French brand known for quality clothing, shoes, handbags and more. I think my first purchase was in their main Paris store l’Appartement back in 2017 and I’ve loved the brand ever since.
I tend to gravitate towards their collection of French Essentials of classic pieces you can wear forever, but you can also find me planning future purchases when they release their look books with upcoming seasonal items.
I especially love Sézane’s timeless knitwear. After countless wears, my sweaters still hold up and are worth the investment.
When I’m packing for a trip, Sézane sweaters are my go to pieces that help me look put together with minimal effort. For many of my 3-day itineraries or trips to Paris in the fall, I’ll pack my carry on with three Sézane sweaters, a few pairs of pants and call it day.
TIP: Don’t overlook their men’s line Octobre Editions. I stopped in the Paris store to grab something for my husband and I saw an effortlessly chic French woman trying on a few of the men’s styles for herself. At 5’2” I’m a little petite for this trick, but it’s genius!
If you are worried about being in between sizes, you can always order two sizes and return the other. This tactic works well to meet their $200 USD minimum spend for free shipping.
After living in Italy, Spain and the States, I’ve ordered from Sézane for years in three countries. I’ve never had a problem with deliveries or returns.
Gaspard Cardigan
The Gaspard cardigan is part of their standing collection of classic essentials and is available in many colors. I was skeptical that it could work with the buttons on the back, but it actually does and it’s my preferred way to wear it now. I personally don’t find the knit scratchy, but I could see where someone with sensitive skin would. I did have to return the Angie because that was way to scratchy for me.
It does grow a bit after a few wears, but shapes back up nicely after washing. I found that the Gaspard cardigan surprisingly holds up well in the wash on a delicate cycle (lay flat to dry), as do their styles with 100% organic cotton. In the past, I would hand wash all of my Sézane knitwear (and that is the best practice). With a toddler these days, I cut the corners where I can and this style tolerates it well.
Betty Cardigan
For some reason I always questioned if the Betty cardigan would fit me right so I hesitated, but I’m so glad my husband got this for me for my birthday. I wore it so many times on my latest trip to France. For cooler mornings, it was easy to wrap around my shoulders and stay warm. It comes in so many colors, but I love the embroider details on the cuffs and pockets in navy and tan. Very petite friendly!
Thais Jacket
I saw this oversized knit jacket at the store in Aix-en-Provence and had to have it. In a world of online shopping, it’s so nice to actually visit a store and see how the pieces are curated. This is a sweater I would have completely passed by online, but it was so much better in person. It is so warm and surprisingly not scratchy.
Léontine Jumper
They had a hard time keeping this timeless French sweater in stock for a while when it first came out. It is restocked often now and worth adding to your collection. Made in Italy with 100% organic cotton. It’s a thicker knit that has some weight to it.
Jacob Jumper
The Jacob Jumper is the perfect versatile staple for layering because it’s not too bulky, but still warm. It comes in classic colors likes navy and black. I’ve had the camel color with tortoise shell button for several years, and I still feel like it goes with everything. 100% Merino Wool and made in Italy.
I love all of my Sézane pieces, but it’s the knitwear that I can never get enough of.
