Whether you want a boutique hotel near the Duomo or a balcony room overlooking the Arno River, Florence offers endless options for where to stay. As the capital city of Tuscany, no trip to the region is complete without visiting Florence. It’s filled with memorable restaurants, world-class museums and interesting things to do.
Florence is a popular and easy add on to most itineraries in Italy. If you’re arriving by train, there are many hotels within walking distance (depending on your luggage situation you might want to grab a taxi). If you’re on a road trip in Tuscany and have a car, be sure to consult with your hotel about what parking garage they recommend if they don’t have valet.
After about 5 or 6 trips to Florence over the years, I’ve stayed in varying types of hotels ranging from on a shoestring in college to my most recent stay at a 5-star property. These recommendations on where to stay in Florence are based on many trips to the city when I was living in Italy and general knowledge of the area. I’ve loosely listed them from highest to lowest price based on a standard double room for a three-night stay in 2025.

Four Seasons Firenze
Four Seasons is synonymous with luxury, and the Florence location is no exception. With historical suites boasting original Baroque frescoes and a Michelin-starred restaurant, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more memorable and luxurious stay in Florence.
You can simultaneously enjoy the largest private gardens in Florence and be within walking distance of the top attractions. Four Seasons Firenze is a family friendly property where kids can enjoy adorable child sized robes and even a kid’s spa menu. Check pricing and availability.
Hotel Savoy
Hotel Savoy is part of the stylish Rocco Forte group (they also own the Hotel de la Ville that’s highlighted in my guide to hotels in Rome with a rooftop terrace). The location in Florence faces Piazza della Repubblica near Caffè Gilli (a historic caffe worth stopping by). Its elegant rooms and suites with marble bathrooms are centrally located, perfect for seeing all of the city’s treasures.
Families are welcomed with extras tailored to children, but couples can also find a secluded spot for a cocktail at Irene. Check pricing and availability.
Grand Hotel Minerva
This hotel had me at “rooftop pool.” The palazzo dating back to the 13th century has 97 rooms and suites located on Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. Non-hotel guests are welcome to enjoy the rooftop and its view at the bar in the evenings. Check pricing and availability.
Hotel la Gemma
A relative newcomer to the hotel scene with its opening in early 2023, Hotel la Gemma is the first hotel by the stylish Cecchi family. I love how the dining spaces and chic rooms are drenched in sage green and velvet. Check pricing and availability.
Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni
I was a guest at Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni located on the street known for its designer shops. Our room was very spacious, clean and had a lovely little balcony overlooking the terracotta rooftops of Florence. The rooftop bar and breakfast dining room offer unique views of both the river and the Duomo.
However, at the time I stayed at the hotel, there were limited reception hours and a lack of valet (contrary to their listed amenities). So, that was a bit of a disconnect for the hotel’s price point. It is in a wonderful location though with incredible views. Check pricing and availability.
Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi Firenze Hotel
During one of my stays in Florence, I chose this property that dates back to the 16th century for its prime location between the river and the train station. This was before it got a much needed renovation by the Tivoli hotel group. The former front desk is now a beautiful bar. They’ve wisely revamped the rooftop as well, but the beautiful views of Florence remain unchanged. Check pricing and availability.
Lungarno Collection Hotels
The Lungarno Hotel group boasts a luxurious selection at varying price points grouped near each other around the Arno river. You’ll be spoiled for choice between Hotel Lungarno, Portrait Firenze and the Continentale with their modern design and wonderful views.
Hotel Lungarno is an excellent choice for its views of the Duomo, while the less expensive Continentale has a beautiful rooftop bar overlooking the Arno.
Casa G
Casa G is a small boutique hotel with just 15 beautifully designed loft suites and rooms with standalone bathtubs. Between the Duomo and Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, you’ll be in prime location to stroll the streets of Florence. The honest bar in the living room provides a relaxing setting for aperitivo before setting off to enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant. Not suitable for children under 12. Check pricing and availability.
Hotel Torre di Bellosuardo
This villa on the outskirts of town offers the pool and gardens of a countryside stay, but it’s walking distance to downtown Florence (admittedly, quite a long walk at over a mile down to the river, but still doable if you didn’t want to get a taxi). Book one of the spacious rooms to enjoy its antique furnishings, the 16th century frescoes and stunning views of Florence. Check pricing and availability.
Hotel degli Orafi
While hotels in Florence are expensive in general, Hotel degli Orafi is a good value relative to its neighbors and location right on the river next to the Uffizi. I love that the rooftop bar is partially enclosed so you can enjoy the views all year round. Some of the rooms are traditionally decorated with exposed beams, while others in a new wing are more modern style. Complimentary Breakfast is served under 19th century frescos. Check pricing and availability.
Hotel Palazzo Guadagni
This boutique hotel with just 15 charming rooms dates back to 1505. With a prime location next to Piazza Santo Spirito, you’ll enjoy views of the piazza below and Florence’s many landmarks in the distance. Tile lovers rejoice, the bathrooms are complete with Vietri tiles. You can’t miss aperitivo on the rooftop bar, Loggia. Family room with connecting bedrooms available. Check pricing and availability.
