Normandy is filled with wonderful hotels, unique guesthouses and historic chateaus to make your trip memorable. From Mont Saint Michel to the Bayeux tapestry to the cliffs of Étretat, there are treasures for every kind of traveler in Normandy with an accommodation type to match.
While Normandy is most famous for its D-Day Landing beaches, there are other wonderful sights and towns to enjoy in the region. After getting your fill of WWII history, you might also consider staying in the upscale beach town of Deauville or checking into a hotel in the fishermen’s village of Honfleur.
This guide highlights my top choices for where to stay in Normandy, France by location. I’ve included where I stayed, luxury properties, quaint hotels and where I’d love to stay next time if I’m ever so lucky to return to Normandy.

Best Hotels Near Landing Beaches
D-Day Landing beaches, cemeteries and WWII museums are probably high on your list to see if you are staying in Normandy. If you are planning to attend any ceremonies for the upcoming 80th anniversary of D-Day in 2024, I would recommend booking as soon as possible as I have noticed top hotels have limited availability.
Château La Chenevière: The property dates back to the 17th century and today is one of the top luxury hotels in Normandy. It’s conveniently located just outside Bayeux and perfect for visiting historical WWII sights (nine minutes to Longues-sur-Mer- battery, 18 minutes to Omaha beach, and 15 minutes to the Normandy American Cemetery).
During WWII, the chateau was the headquarters of high-ranking German officers who used the estate to store horses and trucks. Just days before D-Day, the telecommunications posts were destroyed and allowed for the Royal Army to take over the estate right after the Allied landing. So, it is an extra special property for history buffs.
I was hosted as a guest at Château La Chenevière, but was not obligated to write this post. Staying here just really made our trip extra special. I will cherish the memory of my sweet old dog running through the grass. The property is pet-friendly and supplied the sweetest dog bed and food bowls.
5 stars, two restaurants, bar, pool, bikes and deluxe breakfast buffet available. Check pricing and availability.
Chateau Saint Gilles: This chateau might be located on the other side of Bayeux, but it is still an easy drive to famous D-Day sights. The former 18th century manor house incorporates modern design and wellness. Along with nearby nature walking trails, they also offer a sauna and traditional nordic bath.
4 stars, bar, restaurant, bikes and breakfast available. Check pricing and availability.
Where to stay in Bayeux, Normandy
Staying in the city of Bayeux is also a solid option for seeing D-Day beaches and you’ll be within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The city also has a stunning cathedral and the Bayeux Tapestry Museum. Choosing a hotel in Bayeux is the best option to be close to the train station if coming from Paris.
Le Tardif, Noble Guesthouse: Located right between the cathedral and the tapestry museum, you can’t find a better hotel location in Bayeux. This charming guesthouse is a former mansion from the 18th century complete with a pool and botanical garden.
Breakfast and parking available, heated pool, spacious rooms with kitchenette. Check pricing and availability.
Hotel in Deauville
The upscale city of Deauville is home to beaches, a Grand Casino and luxury boutiques. Just two hours from Paris, it is often called the Parisian Riviera. Long before the town hosted the annual American film festival, Deauville was a beach getaway for high society and even Coco Chanel herself was a frequent visitor.
We visited in spring and the weather was still quite cold to see Deauville in all its glory. While it was still beautiful, I would recommend staying in this town during the warmer months.
Hotel Barrière Le Normandy: This luxury hotel with 271 rooms and suites first opened in 1912 and was completely remodeled in 2016. Coco Chanel opened her hat shop within the hotel grounds shortly after its grand opening. On a cloudy evening when I walked by, the half-timbered facade with dimmed lights looked liked a cozy hideaway.
The Belle Époque property is complete with intimate dining spaces, bars and a beachside restaurant in the summer. I love that it is also family friendly with a children’s club.
5 star, pool, spa, restaurant and bars, bikes available. Check pricing and availability.
Hotels in Honfleur
As I mentioned in my Normandy itinerary, I only stopped in Honfleur for a couple of hours on the way to the airport and I really regretted not staying the night. Not only is the town very charming with a unique wooden church, it has multiple noteworthy hotels.
Ferme Saint Siméon: This Relais & Chateau property offers a private oasis on the outskirts of Honfleur. The traditional Norman buildings are surrounded by relaxing gardens that offer panoramic views of the water. There are two restaurants onsite serving local Norman products, and you’d find me under the thatched roof of La Bouchane.
Apparently, the 17th century farmhouse also has a history as a gathering spot for Impressionists. Enjoy the same scenic gardens that drew famous painters such as Monet in the 19th century.
5 star, spa, restaurants, breakfast available, horse carriage ride available, suites with ocean views. Check pricing and availability.
La Cour Sainte-Catherine: From the street view, you might be surprised to find the lush outdoor space behind La Cour Sainte-Catherine. This hotel was actually a convent in the 17th century. Cozy rooms for an excellent value.
3 stars, breakfast included. Check pricing and availability.
Countryside Stays in Normandy
Les Jardins de Coppélia: Between Honfleur and Deauville, you’ll find Les Jardins de Coppélia with 27 rooms and suites. The property dates back to the 17th century and offers a modern and stylish decor. It is situated in the countryside, but is just a 10-minute drive from Honfleur. They partner with local producers in Normandy to bring cider and Calvados to their bar, and fresh products to their restaurant.
4 stars, pool, restaurants, spa, breakfast available. Check pricing and availability.
L’Auberge de la Source: For a more countryside stay than its sister property Ferme Saint Siméon in Honfleur, consider the charming L’Auberge de la Source. Double rooms are beautifully decorated and the two-level suites offer a little extra room for families.
For even more space, you can rent a small cottage and former blacksmith’s workshop in the nearby village. With an onsite restaurant, garden areas, fish ponds and refined interiors, this hotel perfectly blends style and country living.
4 stars, family rooms, restaurant, breakfast available. Check pricing and availability.
Chateau Near Mont Saint Michel
Mont Saint Michel is another one of Normandy’s most visited destinations. We decided to make it a day trip, but if you prefer to stay in this area of Normandy then Château de Boucéel would be a wonderful choice.
Château de Boucéel: The lush landscape surrounding the chateau is beautiful, but the interiors really shine with intricate details like gold paneling, fireplaces and antique furniture. This chateau dates back to 1763 and has the feel of a luxury, family run B&B (see the three generations that call the estate home). About 20 minutes to Mont Saint Michel, Château de Boucéel would be the perfect accommodation choice in this part of Normandy.
Breakfast included, restaurant, family rooms available. Check pricing and availability.
