Cabo San Lucas

Last Updated on 05/26/2020

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I’m having desperate cravings for tacos and margaritas today. A decent Mexican restaurant is near impossible to find in Italy. So for today, I’m reminiscing about my trip last year to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

A weekend in Cabo San Lucas

I know Cabo has recently been trying to give itself a facelift and reinvent its image as more than just a party destination. Cabo San Lucas delivers both a party scene and a relaxing beach vacation spot. There’s no denying there’s fun to be had, but Cabo also has many luxury hotels, spas and golf courses. However for this trip, I concede, I am of the former group and cannot speak to such golf courses.

I visited Mexico as part of a large party (or 13 twenty-somethings partying largely) celebrating my dear friend’s bachelorette. We decided an all-inclusive resort was the best way to go. An unlimited beer/wine/cocktail supply was crucial and they certainly delivered.

The food was what you’d expect from an all-inclusive as far as delivering a wide selection of meats, fruit, pastries, pasta, sushi, tacos, etc. The portions were truly never ending and the buffet offered an array of options for every meal, but you could also make reservations at several of their specialty restaurants around the resort.

We decided on a change of scenery (“Can you really grow tired of a swim up bar and buffet?” you ask…) and we took a boat into town one day. The Office is definitely worth checking out as this infamous beachside restaurant serves excellent food and margaritas. Who doesn’t like a good margarita?

We sampled the margaritas at this madhouse next door, too. Mango Deck has more of a Spring Break vibe, but we didn’t mind. P.S. Scott Eastwood was there.

As far as activities, you can also take a glass bottom boat tour out to El Arco, Land’s End and Window to the Pacific. The tide and currents are very strong in Cabo San Lucas so you can’t just go for a dip anywhere. Most people choose Lover’s Beach for swimming if the water is calm enough. The opposite side of Lover’s Beach is Divorce Beach. This clever naming should give you the hint that swimming is not safe over there. There’s all kinds of water activities readily available. Just stroll along the marina and you’ll see many options.

Well, I hope you’re enjoying some tequila and tacos this Cinco de Mayo.

Adios mi amigos.
