There are so many great hotels in Rome, it can be hard to choose where to stay. A rooftop bar is a feature I always appreciate when I visit Rome. Enjoying the view of the city from above with its peach buildings and rust orange roofs is a special part of an accommodation. This short list of hotels in Rome with a rooftop terrace includes 5-star luxury picks, historical bars, and a place I’ve stayed multiple times.

Hotel Locarno
Hotel Locarno is a historic boutique hotel with a charming rooftop bar where you can also enjoy a seasonal menu. Celebrities from as early as the post-war film industry in the 1950s would gather on the panoramic terrace.

However, the hotel’s interesting history starts even earlier. It was occupied by Germans for 9 months during WWII, but has never closed its doors since it opened in 1925. At the end of WWII, the Americans inhabited the hotel and restored the lobby as a social playground for children in the neighborhood.

Hotel de la Ville

This Rocco Forte hotel sits right next to the top of the Spanish Steps, and is probably at the top budget of your average traveler. However, a drink at its rooftop bar Cielo is a more affordable luxury. Take in the stunning views of Rome with a cocktail or food from their full menu featuring local produce. Luxury rooms are complete with terraces (some with panoramic views!).

Eitch Borromini

This former palace was built in the 17th century by Borromini adjacent to Piazza Navona. From the 4th floor bar and restaurant, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Rome along with the Fountain of the Four Rivers below. The hotel offers prestigious rooms and suites complete with view of Rome.

Hotel Chapter Roma

Located in the Regola neighborhood, Hotel Chapter Roma is right in between Trastevere, Campo de’Fiori, and the Roman Forum. This hotel has more of an urban international vibe with a 1930s New York inspired restaurant and the “Hey Baby” bar written in graffiti letters. For a more unique and fun rooftop experience head to the Mexican themed rooftop bar Hey Güey to have fresh cocktails and tacos.

Bio Hotel Raphael – Relais & Chateau

Bio Hotel Raphael is known for having one of the most beautiful leafy facades in all of Rome, but it also has a rooftop restaurant. With only a handful of tables, the restaurant serves organic vegetarian specialties in an intimate setting. As part of the Relais & Chateau group, the hotel has modern rooms and suites featuring a private terrace.

9Hotel Cesari
9Hotel Cesari was known as Albergo Cesari when I first stayed there in 2016 and several times since. They have recently completed a massive remodel, changed the name and upped the prices. I preferred its classic style before with the talkative concierge who has now seemingly been replaced with a shiny new lobby.

Despite my wavering feelings on the remodel, you can’t beat the location between the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. 9Hotel Cesari also has an excellent rooftop view that has remained the same over the years. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy a drink at the bar, but it is nice to start your day with breakfast there.

Hi, I loved reading your blog, it was a great help for helping us pick our hotel for our wedding. We are looking for a rooftop terrace to celebrate our wedding, and would like a served dinner, live music afterwards etc. We have contacted so many places but are struggling to find the one. Would you have any suggestions by any chance?
That sounds like a really special event. The only other ones that come to mind are The Waldorf Astoria Hotel and I believe there’s a few set to open in late 2025 (like the Four Seasons and La Minerva Hotel). You might want to contact a wedding planner that specializes in Rome as they would have the best contacts. Best of luck and congratulations!
